Who's involved
Who is helping with the project?
Partners & Stakeholders
To make this project a success, we need help from different organisations. Working together brings new ideas and more chances to deliver better.
There are four main organisations working together that manage flood risk in Newcastle, and they are very important for making the project happen:
- Newcastle City Council – They lead the project and work with the other flood risk organisations.
- Environment Agency – A national organisation that looks after environmental issues including flood risk.
- Northumbrian Water – They manage the sewer system and help stop flooding caused by blocked or full drains.
- The Freemen of Newcastle – They look after and protect the town’s moors
These partners have agreed to work together by signing a memorandum of understanding of support. They’ve already worked together on projects in the past to protect homes and businesses in Newcastle from flooding.
We also work with other groups with interest in the land, environment, and people in the area. They help with research and making sure the project works well:
- Newcastle University – They help with research and testing new ideas.
We’re also working with more groups who can give expert advice or local knowledge. These groups might only help with certain parts of the project:
- Local businesses and community groups
- Wildlife and river trusts
- Transport and active travel organisations
- Landowners
Working Groups
These groups help make sure the project meets its goals for people, the environment, and technical work. We’ve created five working groups, each with a special focus:
-
Project Delivery
This group brings all the other groups together. They make sure everyone shares information and works as a team.
-
Climate Adaptation
This group looks at how the project can help fight climate change. They support nature-based solutions and aim to reduce carbon emissions.
-
Technical & Design
This group focuses on the design and construction side of the project. They work with experts to make sure everything is planned and built properly.
-
Communication & Engagement
This group makes sure people know about the project and its benefits. They also help with public consultations and updates.
-
Innovation & Research
This group connects the project with schools, colleges, and universities. They support learning and help raise the project’s profile across the UK.
